Grounding is the foundation of feeling safe, centered, and comfortable in your body.
It is the definition of embodiment, of being here now. Grounding is critical for physical, emotional, and mental health, and yet, it’s not discussed in Western medicine.
We are electromagnetic beings. The heart generates the largest electromagnetic field in the body, and every organ, tissue, and cell participates in a constant exchange of electrical information. Even the interstitium, the fluid-filled connective tissue network that runs through the body, is now being recognized as a dynamic living matrix that conducts and transmits this energetic communication.
Just like the electrical system in a building, we need to be grounded to function optimally. Without a grounding wire, electrical systems become unstable - vulnerable to surges, interference, and dysfunction. We are no different. When we are ungrounded, or lose our connection to the Earth’s field, we become drained of our life force energy, our nervous systems gets dysregulated, we feel scattered. Grounding restores vitality and gives us the stability our bodies & minds need.
Many of us spend much of our life ungrounded. You likely already know the feeling.
Being ungrounded can look like:
a racing mind
anxiety
panic attacks
insomnia
a chronically dysregulated nervous system
feeling reactive, thin-skinned, or emotionally flooded easily
being easily impacted by other people’s energy
not feeling sensation (including pain) in your body
feeling unsafe / fearful
feeling disconnection from your body
a sensation of “floating” out of your body
chronic muscle tension, especially in the jaws, neck, and shoulders
difficulty connecting to your intuition
These aren’t personal failings - they are powerful messages from the body, inviting you to make a healing shift.
I know this intimately. As a nurse practitioner, I spent years training to read the body’s signals - and yet, when I began studying energy medicine, I realized that I was rarely, if ever, grounded. I was competent, caring, and totally untethered. What I didn’t realize then, was that my chronic anxiety wasn’t a diagnosis to manage or medicate, but simply a symptom of being ungrounded.
Learning to ground changed my life. Not overnight, but in a slow-burn-kinda-way that made an impact that’s impossible to describe in words. With practice and intention over time, I learned to feel safe in my body. I learned to connect with my intuition, and allow my mind relax. The anxiety, which I’d been medicated for until my mid-twenties, was gone. I went from feeling incredibly uncomfortable in crowds, to going to concerts and parties with ease. And perhaps most significantly, I began to understand what emotions and physical sensations were mine, versus someone else’s.
As an empath, I spent my life absorbing the energy of other people - patients, loved ones, strangers on public transit - without realizing it. I’d be going about my day and suddenly feel super sad, out of nowhere, with no idea why. Or, I’d have an appointment with an angry patient, and walk out angry myself - not because I was triggered, but because I was taking on the emotions of that person. Grounding helped me stay full of my own energy, creating solid boundaries between me and others, and discharge any energy that wasn’t mine.
When we are regularly grounded, our bodies healthfully tethered to Mother Earth, we have greater connection to our intuition, the sensation of peace within, and clarity around our needs, desires, and dreams.
This is what I want to teach you. I am offering a grounding workshop every other Saturday at 10am PT, starting June 13th. Through guided meditation and sound, you’ll learn how to ground your energy, connect with the wisdom of your body, and release what isn’t yours. As a sound healer as well as an energy medicine practitioner and teacher, I use crystal singing bowls and other healing instruments to support you in quieting the mind and grounding deeply.
What to expect:
We’ll start with a short lesson on what grounding, and then we’ll go into the experiential part, where you’ll learn how to ground yourself in a guided meditation. Sound healing instruments will be used throughout, and we will end with a sound bath.
You will leave this session feeling more peaceful, with tangible grounding tools to use in your daily life.
All are welcome, from beginners to seasoned meditators. If you have trouble meditating, the sound will support you in quieting the mind. (and if this is you, feel free to let me know in the comments when you register!)
Investment: $22. Please send via Venmo: @Laura-Sanchez-8 (last four digits: 3196). No one will be turned away for lack of funds - please reach out if you need accommodation to laura@laurarsanchez.com
